The Kings skate into tonight’s game with a record of 18-25-3, good for 39 points and last place in the Pacific Division. The club has been playing a little better of late while going 2-2 over its last four, including a 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh last time out.
The Wild are in 5th place in the Central Division with 47 points and a record of 22-20-3.The team is looking to get off the schneid after dropping its last two. Last night, they were hammered on the road in Philadelphia by a score of 7-4.
Los Angeles Kings
It has been a challenging year for the Kings, but the club has shown a little improvement over its last 10 games. The Kings are 5-5 (3-7 O/U) over that span. The team has struggled on the road with a record of 7-12-2, but they are 3-2 in recent away games.
Jonathan Quick is the probable starter in goal for the Kings. He’s just 8-11-2 on the year, but he has picked up wins in two of his last three. All told, Quick has a 2.85 GAA and a save percentage of .904 on the year. Anze Kopitar remains the biggest threat on offense with 13 goals and 18 assists so far.
The Wild have dropped their last two games and given up 12 goals while doing so. The team has been a middle-of-the-road 5-5 (5-5 O/U) over its last 10 contests, and decent at home with an overall mark of 11-8-2.
Alex Stalock came on in relief for Devan Dubnyk last night, and the team may look in that direction. He has a record of 5-4 on the year with a 2.77 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Zach Parise is the Wild’s biggest threat on offense with 19 goals and 22 assists through 44 games.
Kings vs. Wild Prediction
This will be the third meeting of the year for these two Western Conference foes, with the Wild picking up victories in the first two. A glance at the records suggests that the Wild should easily handle business at home versus the Kings, but recent play suggests otherwise.
The Kings still occupy the basement in the Pacific, but they have shown signs of life in recent times and have been off since Saturday. The Wild enter this one off of two big losses in a row and on their third game in four nights. We’re looking for the rested Kings to pull off the road upset over a team that’s struggling defensively.
